AYURVEDA-The Science of Life
Ayurveda (Ayur-Life, Veda-Science Literally meaning Science of Life) is one of the greatest gifts of India to the world and the oldest system of medicine which
has its roots to the Vedic period of ancient India. Ayurveda considers each person as a unique individual made up of five primary elements namely earth, water,
fire, air and space (ether) just as in nature. These basic elements present in us have ability to combine among themselves to create the various physiological
functions. Such combination of elements is called as Doshas, which can be closely translated as bio-energies. Thus the elements of Air & Fire combine to create
Vata Dosha, a bio energy which governs the principle of movement and can be seen as the force controlling nerve impulses, circulation, respiration and elimination
etc., The elements of Fire and Water combine to create Pitta Dosha, a bio energy which governs the transformation (metabolism) and seen as the force behind
transformation of foods into nutrients, metabolism in the organ, tissue and cellular systems. Finally the elements of Earth & Water combine to create Kapha Dosha,
a bio energy which is responsible for growth and can be seen as a force adding structure to our body and offering protection in form of fluid to various organs and
Ayurveda believes when the Doshas function in harmonized manner, it results in well-being of a person. But the disharmony between the Doshas, will result in
elemental imbalance, thus leading to various ailments. The treatment to such imbalances is imparted by PANCHA KARMA THERAPY, massages, herbal medicines, diet
control and exercises in form of yoga and meditation.
Kerala Ayurvedic Treatments
The primary purpose of any Ayurveda treatment is to cure disease by re-establishing the equilibrium of Doshas to a harmonized desirable level. The essence
of treatment is the removal of the root cause toxins so as to give permanent relief and avoidance of causative factors. The medicines for the treatment mainly
comprises of powders, tablets, decoctions, medicated oils etc. prepared from natural herbs, plants and minerals. As the medicines are from natural sources
(not synthetic) they are accepted and assimilated in the body without creating any side effects. In addition to medicines, proper diet and living style is
also advised. So that one don't go back to the days of creating Dosha imbalances. Also Ayurveda recognizes the unique constitutional differences of all
individuals and therefore recommends different regimens for different types of people. Although two people may appear to have the same outward symptoms,
their energetic constitutions may be very different and therefore call for different remedies. So it is very important to note that treatments are recommended
only after the individual having consultation with the experienced Ayurvedic doctors available at the treatment centers.
